I am a child of the 70’s. My sons look at me with disbelief when I tell them that cartoons only played on Saturday mornings and we only had 5 channels. We didn’t watch a lot of Television but one show that was always on was The Brady Bunch. I know every word from every episode. I got pork chops this week to make for dinner and in my head I heard…
Here is how we do chops around here.
Am I the only one who plans meals based on what has the “reduced for quick sale” stickers?
We go pretty simple here. Salt, pepper and granulated garlic. Drop into a really hot cast iron and sear both sides. Finish in a 350 oven for about 15 minutes more. Let them rest. I take them out at 158 to 160 degrees.
Now I cook my pork all the way, my Hubs would not appreciate food born illness on his night off from the ER, but it is already dead…don’t kill it again.
There is dinner. Comfort food. Perfect, tender, juicy and delicious. Now let me tell you about dessert.
I got a shiny new Crocky for Christmas. It is all fancy and self stirs and you can download an app to start it from your smart phone. I have a phone of below average intelligence so, I have not tried this yet. I use it for Chili, Pot Roast and parties. I have never done dessert. I research a few other recipes. I want to use what I have and adding raisins or dates would be a waste with this family.
You will need…
1/2 cup butter (softened)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup applesauce
1 egg
1/4 cup Half and Half or Buttermilk
1 1/2 cup flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 tsp allspice
2 tsp cinnamon
2 tsp cardamom
Pretty simple. Mix. I read some folk lined there slowcooker with foil, parchment, liner bags or just spray. I have foil and trust issues so I line and “grease” it old school with the butter paper. Pour into your crock pot and set on low 4 hours. Cover top with a clean dish towel and place the lid. DO NOT OPEN THE LID warned everyone…
I am writing this on a day our furnace is on the fritz. We are bundled and chilly. I have the fireplace on. The smell of this cake is amazing!!! Glade, Fabrease and Yankee Candle can’t even come close. We are getting excited. The hubs make a special stop to get ice cream to go with our warm, spicy, crock pot miracle.
With much pomp and circumstance we unveiled the masterpiece…
I am not sure what I was expecting but there was a absence of “ohhhhh’s” and “ahhhhh’s”. It was like a rubber tire. The flavor was nice-the texture not so much. The hubs tried to choke it down for me.
Oh well, you win some you lose some. Any advice?
