The Holiday Hamburger

The weather had been down right chilly here. 51 degrees last week…in August!  It felt like late September and that got me thinking about fall. I do still have the grill handy–what have I not grilled yet this summer? (To be honest tho it is 105 here this week–welcome to Wisconsin!)

I don’t use ground Turkey enough. We are a Pork, Beef, Chicken and Venison Family.  We eat Turkey legs…a lot! I just never choose the ground stuff, until this week.

Holiday Hamburger on Onion Roll

with Cranberry Mustard

and Sweet ‘tater fries, Carrot slaw.

I start thinking about my favorite fall flavors. Sage, turkey, cranberry, cinnamon…I am going to try to make a grilled Thanksgiving flavored burger–that my family will want to gobble.

Mix these two babies together for a flavor explosion! Sweet and Heat with a bit of Tang. Perfect way to wake up a Turkey Burger!

I sweat my veg-everthing I use to make stuffing. Carrot, onion, celery, I add sage, thyme salt and pepper. I let it cool before I add it to the ground turkey. Make your patties and grill. I toasted my buns too and give them a slather of my cranberry-mustard goodness. I top with swiss and add the summer tomato and romaine. I might use this to make a Turkey Meatloaf someday soon–with my Cranberry Mustard for a glaze.

I love these sweet potato fries.

I can get them at Target and they are great! Crispy and sweet and soft and salty. I like to dust my fries with cinnamon, brown sugar, cayenne and a bit of salt and pepper….

Carrot Slaw

Carrot slaw is easy…and good! I find my boys will eat whole, sweet carrots faster than those tasteless baby stumps. I always have a big bag of whole carrots on the fridge.

Grate your carrots…(or buy the shredded) About a pound, 6 or so.  Add 1 cup of crushed pineapple, lightly drained but not dry and some fresh parsley leaves from the garden! Stir 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon real maple syrup,1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 tablespoon white sugar, Salt and Pepper, then mix in 1/4 cup mayo,  and  1/4 cup sour cream or buttermilk. This is goooood! Fresh, tangy and sweet and a beautiful color for fall!

I have to tell you, it smelled so good and we were so hungry I forgot to take the dinner plate picture–by the time I remembered there were just crumbs.

I think I need pumpkin ice cream for dessert!

Happy Holidays–no matter what time of year it is!

Sincerely, Sara
